The Serpentine Gallery is pleased to have produced a Limited Edition Print by the celebrated Portuguese Pritzker Prize-winning architect Álvaro Siza. This Print has been created on the occasion of the Serpentine Gallery Pavilion 2005 (2 July – 2 October 2005), which has been designed by Siza and distinguished architect Eduardo Souto de Moura with Cecil Balmond – Arup.

Considered to be the greatest living Portuguese architect, Siza has been the recipient of numerous international awards for his architectural achievements and was named Laureate of The Pritzker Architecture Prize in 1992. Critics have praised his experimentation and freshness of approach. Born in 1933, he completed his first building in 1954. Siza's award-winning projects range from mass housing developments to swimming pools, private houses, banks, office buildings, restaurants, shops and art galleries, but he is best known for the Serralves Museum in Porto.

The Limited Edition Print is a representation of the first drawing made by Siza in the process of designing the Serpentine Gallery Pavilion 2005. It reveals all of the key characteristics of the building: the timber lattice structure, the canopy of lights each contained within a separate panel of the grid, and the way in which the polycarbonate cladding ends 1.3m from the ground, allowing seated visitors to enjoy views of the surrounding Park. Drawing, as a means of working out ideas in the early stages of a project, is key to Siza's working method and the Limited Edition represents a unique opportunity to collect original works by this extraordinary architect.
