The Serpentine Galleries is delighted to present a new Limited Edition by Cally Spooner.
As part of the group exhibition SPEAK (2 March – 21 May 2017) Cally Spooner presented a reading from her novel in progress, interspersed with some unwritten thoughts for 2017, on states of rehearsal, out-of-work speech writers, sweat, shame, structured reality, fake news, false tears and outsourcing. This Limited Edition is the script from Scene 3 of this reading. Each print is uniquely annotated by Spooner with stage directions and is presented in a 'highlight pen yellow' frame.
Interviews between Spooner and a psychiatrist about pre-verbal communication, trauma, apocalypse and sickness reoccur throughout the novel. An excerpt of this was brought to life at the Serpentine Gallery by two fighting dancers and read by the critic Lynton Talbot.
Her essays/writing have appeared in Flash Art and Artforum; her book of scripts is published by SlimVolume (2016) and she is the author of the novel, Collapsing In Parts published by Mousse (2013). In 2012 Spooner participated in the Serpentine Gallery’s Memory Marathon.
