Cerith Wyn Evans (born in Wales, 1958) began his career as a video and film-maker, initially assisting Derek Jarman, and then making short, experimental films during the 1980s which often concentrated on dancers. In the 1990s he began to work in sculpture and installation becoming associated with the Young British Artists movement.

Wyn Evans' conceptual practice includes a wide range of media, from installation, sculptures, photography, film and text. He has produced numerous photographs, often taken during the artist's travels around the globe.

Something Like a Picture (for Gustav) is a tender, fresh and available image. It speaks about an urgency to break the world's problems as they are representational. Wyn Evans wished the picture to attain the status of something like a key to the fabulous possibilities of the real that don't castigate blame or promote promotion.
