Judy Chicago: Revelations

On the occasion of the exhibition Judy Chicago’s first institutional exhibition in London Revelations (23 May – 1 September 2024), Serpentine and Thames & Hudson have co-published an illuminated manuscript by the artist.

The manuscript Revelations is a work that Judy Chicago believed would never be published: a radical retelling of human history, recovering some of the histories of women that society sought to erase. The project began alongside her iconic installation The Dinner Party in the mid-1970s.

Drawing on her intensive research into goddess worship and women’s history, Revelations is foundational to Chicago’s decades-long practice. It is at once a vibrant narrative and a work of art, fifty years in the making. 

Richly illustrated and designed by Jessica Fleischmann / Still Room and Phil Kovacevich, alongside the manuscript by Chicago, this publication includes contributions from Serpentine Associate Exhibitions Curator Chris Bayley and scholar Martha Easton, as well as an interview between Chicago and Serpentine Artistic Director Hans Ulrich Obrist.
