This umbrella designed by Francis Kéré is inspired by his Serpentine Pavilion 2017 which took the tree that serves as a central meeting point in his home town of Gando, in Burkina Faso as its basis. Francis Kéré designed a responsive Pavilion that sought to connect its visitors to nature – and each other. The expansive roof of the Pavilion, like that of the umbrella, echoes a tree’s canopy, allowing air to circulate freely while offering shelter against London rain and summer heat.
