One of the thirteen artists included in State of Play, Sarah Sze creates elaborate systems and whimsical arrangements that reflect on the complex relationships and networks within contemporary life. This limited edition lithograph relates closely to her installation Second Means of Egress (Orange), 2004, which was specially created for the exhibition at the Serpentine Gallery. Inspired by the fire escapes found on facades of apartment buildings in Manhattan, the artist reinterprets these functional ladders and platforms into a small-scale, interconnected structure that climbs the walls of the Gallery. The image of the Limited Edition Print also depicts this series of intricate networks and ladder-like forms, as well as bringing to mind ideas of traditional architectural drawings and blueprints. Using shifts of scale, Sze creates a sense of vertigo in both this print and the work in the Gallery.

All proceeds directly support the Serpentine's multiple strands of programming and most importantly during this time, the delivery of our civic engagement projects.
